I am obsessed with the Muppets. As I write this, I’m wearing a yellow t-shirt with the Muppets on it, sipping from my Kermit the Frog water bottle, and wearing my Kermit Crocs as slippers. Trust me, no one was more devastated by the Muppets Courtyard closure than I.
Even though it still hurts to hear them actively working on Muppets Courtyard when I visit Hollywood Studios, I’m pretty excited for it to be turned into Monstropolis, one of my favorite Pixar movies. With all the construction, Muppets Courtyard is changing almost every day, and it’s officially the end of an era, as iconic symbols from the area have been taken down.
What do you see? Or what you don’t see? There’s no more MuppetVision sign! Go ahead and grab the tissues. I’ll be right here when you’re ready.
In some of the concept art for Monstropolis, it looks like the MuppetVision theater is being turned into “The Glob,” which we think is based on the famous Globe Theatre. We know a hanging door roller coaster in the extended part of the land, but we’re thinking the MuppetVision theater is being turned into a new show. Guess we’ll be getting a whole new sign for it!
Looking up at that clock tower, Gonzo has flown away! He used to hang down from the hands of the clock, but the Great Gonzo must have moved on to his next daring trick (I hope it’s being shot out of a cannon for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets).
Is it weird to say it looks naked? It looks naked! Slowly, Disney is removing and painting over all the Muppet quirks and leaving it to the monsters to take over.
The area closed in June 2025, and almost immediately, Disney removed the Miss Piggy fountain out front but left the other signs of the Muppets for almost another five months. We’re hoping the fountain, marquee sign, and Gonzo are all safe in the archives to be brought back to life in a different way. I don’t even want to think about what’s happening inside the MuppetVision theater (but, uhm, if anyone knows where the penguins are going, please let me know — asking for a friend).
At least the Muppets aren’t leaving forever! In fact, they aren’t even leaving Hollywood Studios. The Muppets are evicting Aerosmith from their roller coaster and taking over themselves. The Electric Mayhem has a show to play, and we’re going to get to help.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is closing and reopening in 2026, meaning there’s going to be a quick turnaround. The Muppets must be waiting in the wings, ready to join at any given moment.
