Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure might look cute and harmless, but let’s just say it packs a few surprises that I wish I’d known about before hopping into my rat-mobile for the first time.
This ride in EPCOT’s France Pavilion is one of the park’s most popular newer attractions, and for good reason — it’s immersive, adorable, and a total hit with Pixar fans. But after riding it a few times, I can confidently say there are a few things I really wish I’d known ahead of time to make the experience smoother, faster, and a little less dizzying. So if you’re planning to ride Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure soon, here are three key tips that will save you time, help you get a better experience, and maybe even save you from a queasy afternoon in World Showcase.
Not Knowing About the Single Rider Line
Let’s start with what might be one of EPCOT’s best-kept secrets — this ride actually has a single rider line! And if you didn’t know that before, don’t feel bad. Disney doesn’t always advertise it as clearly as it could be, and it’s easy to miss, especially if you’re rushing through the France Pavilion or just following the main standby line signs.
If you’re visiting EPCOT solo, or you don’t mind splitting up your group, the single rider line can be a major time-saver. Wait times for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure can easily climb over an hour (and often do). The single rider line, on the other hand, can get you on the ride in a fraction of that — sometimes in as little as 15 or 20 minutes, depending on the day and crowds.
There is a trade-off, of course. You’ll skip some of the main queue, which means missing out on a few fun details and pre-show moments. But if you’ve already experienced the ride before, or you’re short on time, this is hands-down one of the easiest ways to fit Remy into your day without losing valuable park time.
Trying to Rope Drop from the Front of EPCOT
Rope dropping Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure from the main EPCOT entrance might sound like a good idea in theory — until you realize just how far away it is from the front of the park. The attraction is located in the back of the France Pavilion, tucked deep into World Showcase, which means you’ll be doing a lot of fast walking before you even get close.
The real move? Rope drop from the International Gateway entrance instead. This entrance is located between the United Kingdom and France Pavilions, and it’s far less crowded first thing in the morning (and significantly closer). You can access it easily if you’re staying at one of the EPCOT-area hotels, like Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, the Yacht or Beach Club Resorts, or even the Swan and Dolphin. It’s also a quick walk if you’re taking the Disney Skyliner from Hollywood Studios or one of the Skyliner resorts.
From there, you’re practically right next door to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure — meaning you’ll beat most of the crowd coming from the front of the park. It’s one of those insider EPCOT hacks that really pays off if you’re trying to maximize your time and minimize long waits.
Underestimating How Nauseating It Would Be
This ride is a trackless dark ride that uses screens, motion, and smell effects to make you feel like you’ve shrunk down to the size of a rat scurrying through Gusteau’s kitchen. And while it’s super impressive technology, the constant darting around, sudden spins, and transitions between screen-based scenes and physical sets can mess with your senses — especially if you’re prone to motion sickness.
After my first ride, I’ll be honest — I needed a break. And I’ve since learned that I’m not the only one. The good news is that Disney will be switching the ride from 3D to 2D next month, which should help a lot of riders going forward. But if you know you’re sensitive, my advice is to skip the ride until after the changeover (so you won’t have to deal with 3D glasses), or plan to take a breather in the shade afterward (France has plenty of cozy spots to recover with a pastry).
So, to recap: There’s a single rider line that can save you tons of time, rope dropping from the International Gateway is the way to go, and if you’re sensitive to motion, maybe brace yourself — or at least don’t ride it right after lunch. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is one of EPCOT’s most charming attractions, and with these tips, you can make the most of it without any surprises. Whether you’re there for the technology, the theming, or just to feel like you’re part of the movie, a little preparation goes a long way.
