Disney fans have been BEGGING for a Villains Land in the parks for years now, and it’s finally happening! As part of the massive Magic Kingdom expansion, a whole new land dedicated to our favorite baddies is coming to life.
While the announcement was made at the D23 Expo back in August 2024, Disney has been dropping little nuggets of information and details about the new Villains Land ever since — and we’ve been waiting with bated breath. And, while we don’t know for certain, we’re pretty sure Disney just dropped some more hints about what we can expect from this new land!
Walt Disney Imagineering recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at its special effects department, including some new tricks they’ve got up their sleeves — and we can’t help but wonder if any of these effects are for Villains Land coming to Magic Kingdom!
One Imagineer showed off this awesome storm cloud, complete with lightning effects — could this have something to do with Hades from Hercules? Perhaps Zeus will show up on a cloud to save the day? Only time will tell….
We also got a glimpse inside the WDI fridge — which felt like an episode of MTV Cribs — and look who was hiding inside! A Snowgie! While we’re not sure this element is actually for Villains Land, we can’t deny how cool it looks. See what I did there? You’re welcome. I’ll be here all week. And next week, too. And probably the week after that. You can’t get rid of these terrible jokes easily.
But the part that convinces us this video has something to do with Villains Land is when Imagineer Justin appears on screen, showing off this awesome flame effect that combines modern tech with classic Imagineering tricks. The flame itself is pretty cool…
…but Justin said that this effect is for [REDACTED] — Disney bleeped out what he actually said in the video — and we’re pretty darn sure he said “Villains Land” under the beep and obfuscation of his mouth!
Of course, Disney hasn’t confirmed that any of these elements will be included in the upcoming Villains Land, and it’s certainly not the only expansion in the works at Disney parks.
Along with Villains Land, Disney announced another addition to Magic Kingdom: a Cars expansion coming to the park’s Frontierland. Get ready to visit Piston Peak! The cars are leaving Radiator Springs to explore the West and head into new frontiers. Piston Peak will invite you to enter the world of Cars with a National Park twist.
