As of November 7th, 2025, over 1,000 flights have been canceled flying within, into, or out of the United States due to the government shutdown.
Transport Secretary Sean Duffy said, “You will see mass flight delays. You’ll see mass cancellations, and you may see us close certain parts of the airspace, because we cannot manage it, because we don’t have air traffic controllers.” Many major airports are being affected, including the Orlando International Airport (MCO), the closest airport to Disney World.
Right now, only 29 flights have been canceled, either arriving or departing from Orlando Airport. More cancellations are likely to come early next week, around November 10th. There have been about 56 delays, with the most being from Southwest Airlines.
TSA security at Orlando Airport is currently taking more than 30 minutes for the general line, while TSA PreCheck is five minutes or less. You can check the security wait times before heading to the airport on the MCO website, where they are posted. It’s still recommended to arrive two hours before your departure, or possibly more if you’re planning to check bags.
Another airport option for Disney World is Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB), which currently has no delays or cancellations and is not on the preliminary list of airports with major cuts. It’s about one hour away from Disney World, where you can rent a car and drive the distance or take a ride share.
If you’re within driving distance but usually fly, this might be a time to drive to Disney World. The Orlando Airport is not completely shut down; many flights are still arriving and departing. There are likely to be delays. If your flight is canceled, it’s helpful to have a backup plan for how you’re coming to Florida, including other flights, driving, or even postponing your trip.
