There’s just something about McDonald’s that scratches an itch most other restaurants can’t — including one’s at Disney World!
Even though Disney World has so many amazing restaurants, it’s hard to resist the McDonald’s urge. The quintessential quick-service restaurant, our staff agrees that there are just some things McDonald’s does better than its competition at Disney World.
Are we saying that McDonald’s is overall better than Disney dining? Absolutely not. But you don’t get to the top of the global food chain market without offering some really elite things.
For starters, we HAVE to mention the fries. While we love Disney World fries, McDonald’s fries are just so iconic. Crispy, tasty, and classic, McDonald’s fries are often thought of as one of fast food’s superior fries — and it’s hard to argue, especially when you get them hot and fresh.
Additionally, while the quick-service burgers at Disney World are solid, it’s really tough to top a Big Mac. McDonald’s most popular items are popular for a reason.
Disney World desserts are often brilliant, but sometimes we just want soft-serve ice cream with toppings, like a McFlurry. Few things in life hit the same way as a McFlurry on a hot day — or any day, really.
Disney World’s quick-service restaurants do offer kids’ meals, but McDonald’s has them beat, as a Happy Meal also comes with a toy. If a kids’ meal came with a free souvenir at places like Cosmic Ray’s, maybe this point wouldn’t be valid. Alas, if your kid wants a toy with their meal at Disney World, you’ll have to bring one yourself or buy one.
Let’s talk price. While you can get free refills at some quick-service locations at Disney World, that’s not a concern at McDonald’s. In some locations, McDonald’s also has a deal where you can pay one price for any-sized cup. AND, generally speaking, the food at McDonald’s is still relatively cheaper than food inside Disney World.
Then you factor in the rewards program and app rewards — simply stuff you really don’t get outside of the Annual Passholder and Cast Member discounts. But with the McDonald’s app, you can get free items and big-time deals. We also love that you can get your food delivered to you with services like DoorDash.
And finally, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that you can get custom-blend teas at McDonald’s instead of the Gold Peak available at Disney World — and for us, that’s a major perk.

Huckleberry-Citrus Cooler: Gold Peak Black Tea, huckleberry and agave syrups, grapefruit soda, and lemon and orange juices garnished with an orange wedge (Non-alcoholic beverage)

Most WDW regulars will all agree that the weakest link in the Disney chain is and has always been the food. Disney food is regarded as a necessary evil wrapped inside a Disney vacation… kinda like a hidden Mickey I your pocket. Generally average in quality, not up to casual off the street, and grossly overpriced. Bring back McDonalds fries to the parks. Disney fries are not even close.
