The United States Government has been shut down since October 1st, 2025, impacting airports and flights across the country, among other things.
On the morning of November 10th, there were significant flight delays and cancellations at Orlando International Airport (MCO), the airport that most people fly into when heading to Disney World. We’ve got the latest information you need to know, so let’s get into it.
As of 12 PM ET on Monday, November 10th, there were over 200 flight delays and nearly 60 flight cancellations at Orlando International Airport. This is largely due to the continued impact the government shutdown has had on the air travel industry. Both TSA agents and air traffic controllers, along with other federal employees, have been furloughed without pay, causing many employees to call out of work.
If you’re flying out of MCO today, make sure you keep up with the latest information from your airline’s app for the most recent updates about your flight status. And, if your flight gets canceled, well, you might as well go to Disney World, right? Just kidding. Kind of.
According to ABC News, a rare Sunday session was held, at which lawmakers “cleared a key hurdle” toward reopening the government. A short-term funding bill was passed by a close vote of 60-40. Officially, the shutdown is still in effect, but this is the first step toward reopening the government.
While the shutdown may be ending soon, the impacts it has had will likely continue, especially when it comes to air travel. It will likely still take some time for things to be up and running, as lawmakers still have to debate and vote on the final bill before the government can reopen again, which is expected to happen this week.
CNN reports that this past weekend was the worst for air traffic control staffing since the shutdown began some 41 days ago.
We’ll be on the lookout for more flight delay info and updates that could impact your Disney World trip. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
