Disney World is currently in its CHANGE era, apparently, because changes are happening everywhere. There are three new lands on the way, which will bring new rides, as well as a huge expansion in Magic Kingdom. Some rides are even getting some major updates.
Now, EPCOT went through a massive transformation not too long ago. That transformation included the addition of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France Pavilion. Well, that relatively new ride just went through a major change…and we headed straight to EPCOT to check it out.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure was closed from November 10th through 13th to make a huge update to the ride. The 3D attraction was converted to a 2D ride. Well, the ride recently reopened, and we got to see just how different it looked. The first change we noticed is that the area where you would normally pick up 3D glasses for the ride has a curtain in front of it. So that’s something new.
When we got on the ride vehicle, it felt a little weird not having the glasses on, but the ride itself is the same. The 2D screens look really good with very clear images, so we were glad to see that the film part of the ride looked great. Our photos don’t really do it justice, but it is hard to snap a photo while you’re moving around!
So that’s a lot different from the previous ride. One thing we noticed is that without the 3D, it feels a little less immersive because you don’t have those sort of “in-your-face” moments that made it seem so realistic. The ride itself, though, is just as enjoyable, and we can imagine that a lot of folks who get motion sickness with 3D will really appreciate this change. I, personally, got nauseous with the 3D version, so this 2D version means I can ride it again without worrying about how I’ll feel after!
It’s nice that Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is now a little more accessible to Disney World visitors, and the truth is if you haven’t been on it before, you probably won’t even notice that lack of immersion we felt. Disney has plans for more updates to the ride and its queue, too, so we might see some new details added to bring that feeling of immersion back with 2D.
