An all-new Avatar experience is coming to Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort!

You may already be familiar with Pandora — The World of AVATAR located in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. But Disney shares that this new destination in Disney California Adventure will “bring Pandora to life in a brand-new way,” inspired primarily by Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: Fire and Ash and more upcoming Avatar films.

Here, in an innovative boat ride, you’ll explore new areas of Pandora in a “thrilling excursion that will bring all the action, excitement, and wonder of Avatar, taking guests all the way to the wide-open seas of Pandora.” Disney further stated that “This is going to be a dynamic, intense and emotional experience on a grand scale that we know our guests will love.”

In June 2025, Disney confirmed where exactly the new Avatar land is going to be installed. This new addition will take over a portion of the current Hollywood Backlot area in Disney California Adventure. Disney noted that to make way for this new experience, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will close in early 2026.

When the attraction closes, a multi-year construction project will begin in the fall of 2026. Disney noted that the project is still in the early stages of development, and additional details will be shared later, including construction timeframes.
Though this project was officially confirmed by Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro in August 2024, we have been following developments on this story for a little while.
In March 2024, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated the following during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference: “We have one Avatar-based land, Pandora, in Florida. We’re going to put a second one in California.” D’Amaro’s announcement serves as the official confirmation.
